I have been a member of the California Bar since 1995. I received my JD from University of California, Hastings College of the Law San Francisco in 1995. I received a BS from the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. In 1995 I served as a full-time judicial extern for US District Court Judge Lynch in the Northern District of California.
From 1995-2000, I was an associate attorney at Katzoff & Riggs in Berkeley representing developers, contractors, architects, small businesses and individuals in litigation, contract, real estate and corporate law matters.
In 2000 I began a solo practice working out of my home. I wanted to use my experience and interest in corporate law and real estate law to represent non-profit corporations and land trusts as well as alternative or shared living situations such as communal houses, persons entering Tenants-in-Common (TIC) agreements, coops, and rural land projects.
I have worked as a member and leader of a variety of non-profit organizations and alternative collectives since 1984. I hope to use my law practice to promote non-profits and civil society generally. I help form non-profits and process their applications for tax exempt status. I can also provide legal services to deal with non-profit operational issues.
I have helped form and I represent a number of land trusts on a variety of matters including property acquisitions.
Alternative Real Estate Projects
I have lived in group housing situations continuously since 1987 and have had contact with dozens of alternative living projects over the years. In 1998 I founded a seven person communal house in Berkeley where I still live. I bring my personal experience with consensus process and collectives to my legal practice to help my clients achieve their goals. I have provided legal services for a wide continuum of shared ownership situations from Tenants-in-Common, to cooperative ownership to non-profit ownership models.
Services I provide as an attorney include:
–Formation of non-profit corporations in California
–Processing of applications for tax exemption
–Providing creative legal solutions for non-profits, land trusts and shared housing groups such as communal houses, coops, cohousing projects and rural land projects
–Handling non-profit and land trust real estate issues
–Contract drafting includes leases
I generally work Monday – Thursday, 9-5. Please call me at 510-549-1436 or email me at jessedpalmer [at] gmail [dot] com if you want further information.
